Membership

    Q) Do I need to be a Member of the IIBA™ to be a Member of the IIBA™ Greater Boston Chapter (GBC)?

    A) Yes. You must be an IIBA™ Member to join and remain a member in good standing of the GBC.  GBC welcomes Members and Non-Members alike to participate in Chapter events; however Non-Members will not qualify for certain “member-only” benefits.

Q)What are the benefits of being a GBC Member?
    A) Greater Boston Chapter Membership benefits include:
    • Free or significantly reduced-price event attendance (Non-members are charged a meeting fee ($15 pre-registration or $20 at the door for most Chapter Meetings), and members can attend many chapter events for no charge; events such as dinner meetings or full-day workshops will be priced as they occur, but members will enjoy “member discounts” for each event)
    • Access to member only benefits on the website (ie. member only discounts & promotions, future planned “member-only” content)
    • Networking with other business analysis professionals at events and through our online LinkedIn community
    • Networking with representatives from local organizations that retain the services of business analysts
    • Career development
    • CBAP Study group and discounted participation fees
    • Informational speakers on relevant topics
    • Exposure to new tools and cutting-edge techniques
    • Opportunities for leadership through participation on committees
    • The ability to vote in general and special elections
    • Enjoyable social interaction

    Q) How do I join the IIBA™ Greater Boston Chapter (GBC) and what is the cost?

    A) Membership with the GBC is for a fixed program year running July 1 through June 30.  Chapter membership is currently $35 per program year.  Visit our website for most current information and/or to join GBC at http://boston.theiiba.org.

    Q) Why is the GBC requiring Chapter Membership dues over and above IIBA™ dues?

    A) The GBC receives no direct funding from the IIBA™ International body.  We rely exclusively on sponsor and membership support to design, build and maintain programs of value to the Business Analyst community in the Greater Boston Region.  Plans for expanded member benefits include website improvements such as a knowledge base, “Mentor/ Collaboration Zone”, and expanded job postings, as well as additional learning opportunities such as study groups (for CBAP) and webinars.  This work is all conducted by Chapter volunteers.  Your chapter membership dues along with the great support from our sponsors provides the funding required to build and support these services which will ultimately benefit you!

    Q) Are any Employers currently paying for or reimbursing membership dues and certificate fees associated with the IIBA™?
    A) Many employers are now either paying for or reimbursing membership dues for both International and Chapter level IIBA™ organizations. It is becoming more common for Certificate fees to be reimbursed now as well for those who successfully achieve their Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP™) certification.  In fact, we recently heard of one organization who is offering a cash bonus as well!  Please check with your manager and/or human resources contacts to determine whether your organization offers these benefits to you!

Q) What is the difference between IIBA™ and the IIBA™ Chapters?
A) The IIBA™ is an international not-for-profit professional association for Business Analysis professionals.  The IIBA™ vision is to be the leading world-wide professional association that develops and maintains standards for the practice of business analysis and for the certification of practitioners. IIBA™ Chapters are organizations chartered by the IIBA™  to help accomplish this vision and promote increasing maturity and understanding of the discipline of Business Analysis at the local level.  The local chapters support this objective by providing educational, networking, and professional development opportunities for their business analyst communities.

Q) Can I participate in IIBA™ Greater Boston Chapter (GBC) activities if I am not a member of the IIBA™ or GBC?
A) GBC welcomes Members and Non-Members alike to participate in many chapter activities. In some cases, Members may receive free or substantially discounted benefits over Non-Members, and in other cases there will be some exclusive benefits for Members only. Join us at an upcoming chapter meeting to get a feel for the association, meet some of the people involved, and determine how we can best support your objectives!

Q) What does it cost to attend a Chapter Meeting?
A) Most chapter meetings are free for GBC Members. Non-Members will be charged $15 if they pre-pay, or $20 if they “pay-at-the-door.”  Upcoming event information may be found on the chapter website at http://boston.theiiba.org.
